That is a great story PC! My mouth is watering and I am seriously thinking about fryin up some chicken! And how fun that you got to meet Julia Child! My aunt was from the south, she taught me to appreciate Hot Sauce, and we often had the exact meal you described. I loved the legs (we all did) and would usually get in trouble for taking all of them and not eating the breast. Good times :-) I want to eat at your table!
Bon Appetite!

As a child we raised our own chickens so we ate a lot of chicken. Yes, I still use my moms cast iron skillet after 50 years. Thanks so much for the recipe.

I feel one step braver about frying chicken after reading this post!!! I really do want to share in the deliciousness and I need to just get on with it and do it! How lovely it would be to have homemade buttermilk fried chicken at the center of a summer dinner! Thinkin' about it... (Also luv the story about Julia and husband!)

Do you think you could give a tutorial video on the site? I've tried this once and think the grease was too hot and it burned but then maybe its because I'm from western New York and we don't really have fried chicken in these here parts.

Wow, what a great post. For one thing, I love fried chicken. Although I'm from California, I married a Kentucky boy, and his mother makes amazing fried chicken in a cast iron skillet every time we visit. I think her method is the same as yours!Second, how lucky to have Julia Child at your house! And third, I'm so intrigued by her fundraising for Planned Parenthood...I happen to work for Planne Parenthood too. This makes me love Julia Child even more!!
