Sweet Potato Cobbler

November 21, 2010 by The Runaway Spoon 9 Comments

I’m going to go all Southern on you again with this delicious, old-fashioned, homey dessert perfect for the autumn table.  I’m not, however, going to get into a discussion on what exactly a cobbler is – biscuit top, crumble top, pastry top, whatever.  This is how I make cobbler, and that’s good enough for me. But really, is there any more comforting dessert than a cobbler, … [Read more...] about Sweet Potato Cobbler

Cranberry Ginger Compote

November 14, 2010 by The Runaway Spoon 3 Comments

I would hazard a guess that the cranberries on the Thanksgiving table are one of the more polarizing dishes.  You can’t have Thanksgiving without cranberries, but the divide between sweet and savory, jellied or chunky, canned or homemade is probably the source of mnay under-the-breath comments and drive-to-grandma’s complaints. Cinnamon Apple Salad

September 29, 2010 by The Runaway Spoon 5 Comments

Easy and good. Maybe two of the best words ever for busy cooks. This is a great little recipe for a simple, crispy salad that highlights autumn’s goodness.  I make this for myself throughout the season.  I love it beside a peanut butter sandwich, but I have also put it in a pita with a few spinach leaves.  I’ve made this for kids and it’s always a big hit. You can serve it on … [Read more...] about Cinnamon Apple Salad

I'm P.C. I think I am like most people. Somewhere in the middle between food snob and food schlub. Just being in the kitchen makes me happy. I live, mostly in my kitchen, in my hometown of Memphis, Tennessee.
