Peach and Ginger Muffins

August 10, 2011 by The Runaway Spoon 2 Comments

The combination of peaches and ginger is a favorite of mine, and in these muffins, it really shines.  These muffins are not too sweet, but burst with flavor and texture.  Fresh, in-season peaches are such a summer treat, make the most of the season. Use real ginger ale for this – the kind you find at natural food stores or specialty markets.  Fortunately, it is frequently … [Read more...] about Peach and Ginger Muffins

Fresh Corn Buttermilk Biscuits

July 31, 2011 by The Runaway Spoon 6 Comments

I like books about people who do things.  This summer I have been reading the Little House on the Prairie series, and boy do they do things.  Make their own clothes, their own food – even their own house.  I have a list of books I have enjoyed that detail the work of women in the kitchen, baking bread, tending gardens, canning produce, collecting their own honey.  Now let me … [Read more...] about Fresh Corn Buttermilk Biscuits

Peach Butterbourbon Sauce

I ration out those little frozen bags of golden jewels like they really are precious gems.  And when I … [Read more...] about Mexican Corn Salad

Squash Blossom Pesto

July 10, 2011 by The Runaway Spoon 31 Comments

I adore squash (or zucchini) blossoms. Last year, I even planted some zucchini in an effort to have my own supply.  I was not successful. Fortunately, the farmers market here has a vendor or two that sell the blossoms, though they are often claimed early by restaurant chefs.  But that’s the beauty of getting to know the farmers – they will put a few aside for you if … [Read more...] about Squash Blossom Pesto
