It’s a little hard for me to believe, but I have been The Runaway Spoon for over eleven years. My first post, in April of 2009, was about fried chicken and meeting Julia Child. Since then, I have become a full-time food writer, published three cookbooks and made more wonderful connections with readers and fellow food writers than I could ever enumerate. My knowledge of food has grown exponentially and in some ways my approach has shifted as I learn more, taste more, eat more and make more. But there is one thing I have not done – until now. A refresh of the website. But here you go – all the recipes are still here, and I will continue to post new ones. The format is cleaner, and will be easier to search and scroll, and the mobile site will be more friendly. It will be easier to print recipes or to save them to Pinterest and share on social media. Click on the link at the top of the page to visit The Runaway Spoon Store, which will take you to an Amazon store with lists of my favorite kitchen tools, ingredients, cookbooks and food related reading. I will receive a small commission for any products you purchase through my link. I still use my beloved little running spoon logo, and I still produce creative recipes with a definite Southern slant, and hopefully we will continue to cook together.
The process of revamping has meant a lot of time going through the archives, so I thought a good way to kick things off would be to share again some of my favorite recipes from The Spoon. I’ve linked all the original posts (just click on the blue highlighted title) which will give you a chance to explore the new format and revisit some old favorite.
These Blue Cheese and Fig Savories won me a contest on Food52 and made it into their first cookbook. They are a simple but special little snack and popular on The Spoon.
My first book was Pimento Cheese the Cookbook, published in 2014. Sometimes I feel like deciding which is my favorite pimento cheese recipe is like deciding a favorite child. That being said, check out my Barbecue Pimento Cheese.
Friends ask me to bring this Roasted Onion Dip to parties all the time.
The recipe that has made the biggest stir on social media is these Roast Beef, Blue Cheese and Caramelized Onion Sliders.
One of the most searched recipes is the Homemade Bloody Mary Mix with Canning Instructions. As summer produce is almost upon us, make up a batch to celebrate now (or later).
Hot Milk Cake with Strawberry Caramel Sauce is one of my favorites, because the cake is so simple but the caramel sauce so divine!
Sometimes you start with an idea you are not completely sure is going to go the way you want it, but end up with something better than you could have expected. Like Salted Honey Chess Pie, one of my new favorites.
And the turkey. We can’t forget the turkey.
Thank you for eleven years of support, and here is to many more years of cooking together!
I love the new site!!! Congratulations it looks amazing my friend!
Thank you!
Thank you for sharing all of your wonderful recipes. I discovered your website quite a few years ago. I now follow you on Instagram and own two of your cookbooks. My son bought me the last one I own—a signed copy of your Southern Snacks he picked up in a shop in DeLand, Florida. After thumbing through the book, he landed on your cheddar biscuits and he has made them for us several times.
