Persimmon Bread

December 30, 2012 by The Runaway Spoon Leave a Comment

Persimmons are the brightest spot in the barren winter fruit scape.  Sure, citrus is there, but I miss the reds, pinks, peach, blues, plums, purples and greens of summer bounty.  But then there are these bright beauties, orange and smooth and shiny, with their frilly green caps.  I have a tendency to overbuy, because I am so excited about a fresh winter fruit.  And I am not … [Read more...] about Persimmon Bread

Black-Eyed Pea and Cornbread Skillet

December 23, 2012 by The Runaway Spoon 4 Comments

No self-respecting Southerner, I boldly say, would let New Year’s Day pass without at least one bite of black- eyed peas. I’ve been … [Read more...] about Merry Morning Muffins with Eggnog Butter (Overnight Gingerbread and Cranberry Muffins)

I like these … [Read more...] about Sweet Potato Angel Biscuits

Halloween Hot Chocolate (Liquid Candy)

October 30, 2012 by The Runaway Spoon 1 Comment

I see lots of recipe for using up leftover Halloween candy.  I’m not sure I see the point, as just eating it straight is generally fine with me.  Mind you, not in one sitting, but over time, stashed in drawers and cabinets.  But I do want to make my contribution with this creamy, rich hot chocolate.  Make it as soon as the little monsters come in from the trick-or-treating … [Read more...] about Halloween Hot Chocolate (Liquid Candy)

I'm P.C. I think I am like most people. Somewhere in the middle between food snob and food schlub. Just being in the kitchen makes me happy. I live, mostly in my kitchen, in my hometown of Memphis, Tennessee.
